Sewing

For a while I have been thinking about acquiring sewing, carpentry, electrical, gardening etc. skills at a basic level. I think they're all very practical, and I like learning, so here I am :)

We used to sew in school, also with machines, but I admittedly forgot most of it. So the other night I started watching sewing tutorials on YouTube, both general ones and ones for my girlfriend's specific machine (a basic Singer 3223), and yesterday I tried setting everything up and it went pretty well!

I realized that we probably need to get a dedicated scissor for cloth - our normal kitchen scissor had a hard time, and the test cloth pieces came out pretty skewed

Only issue I had was with the bobbin thread. It wouldn't properly "catch" it while sewing, but after I re-insterted it in the holder a few times, it started to catch it.

I think my goal for this skill is to be able to make a Linux Tux plushie. In the spirit of open source, there is an open source Tux sewing pattern called the Free Penguin Project. Pretty cool!

If you have any suggestions for what to make or tips, feel free to email me.
